Frivolous law suits

In the latest example proving that something needs to be done to stop frivolous lawsuits, former Phoenix Coyote assistant coach Rick Tocchet and Janet Jones, Wayne Gretzky’s wife, could sue the State of New Jersey for $50 million each because state officials leaked information that the two were involved in an illegal gambling ring last year.

While I agree with the claims made by Mr. Tocchet and Ms. Jones that their reputations and future earning potential has been severely damaged, it’s their own fault. They each broke the law and undermined the integrity of their profession (or in the case of Ms. Jones, her husband's profession). The information that was leaked would have come to light at trial. The NHL would have suspended Tocchet regardless of whether or not the reports were made public. It’s a frivolous case that the tax payers of New Jersey shouldn’t have to defend.
